Power

Compost Power's mission is to build accessible and sustainable compost sites throughout New York City. We divert organic waste away from landfills and reduce methane emissions. We empower our communities through education, job training and mentorship. We serve New York City public housing residents by operating on 8 NYCHA campuses. We remove negative stigmas associated with composting by “Making Compost Cool.”

Goals:

Outreach & Education

  • Accept and process ~15,000 lbs of organics at Wagner Houses and Howard Houses

  • Host and coordinate two 24 hour Food Scrap drop offs

  • Hire 2 full time crew members

Distribution

  •  Apply finished compost to local community gardens and farms

Outreach & Education

  • Facilitate and teach 8 rodent reduction workshops for community partners and city funded organizations using Compost Power’s Diamond-Standard Rodent Reduction Rubric (RRR).

  • Host a rodent reduction workshop for the Master Composter Certification 

  • Host tabling sessions at community events 

    • Harvest fests, family days and Zero waste events

    • Engage with a minimum of 1000 residents

  • Provide 10 sites with technical assistance  

    • Deliver carbon rich feedstocks

    • Community garden cleanups

    • Site design consultations 

    • Create rodent reduction plans
